The Department of Technology and Safety (ITS) at UiT-The Arctic University of Norway has two Research positions for individuals interested in advancing maritime technology and safety. The appointment is for a period of 1 year.
Area 1, REFRAME: maritime autonomous surface ships: Analyze human-automation dynamics, focusing on control architectures, human-AI teaming and safety assurance in remote and semi-autonomous maritime operations.
Area 2, i-MASTER: learning analytics for maritime performance assessment: Explore data-driven methodologies, learning analytics and performance evaluation models to enhance operational efficiency and decision support in maritime contexts.
ITS is organised under the Faculty of Science and Technology and is located at two campuses: Tromsø and Harstad. The department has approximately 90 employees and approximately 600 students. It offers undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degree programmes as well as research in the areas of nautical science, aviation, societal safety, environment, and international preparedness.
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position in Tromsø within a reasonable time, within 6 months after receiving the offer.
The position under area 1 is funded by the Research Council of Norway through the project “Bridging Education and Future Work: Reframing Education and Competence Model for Remote Maritime Operations (REFRAME)”. Researchers in this role will be involved in conducting experiments and addressing research questions related to human-automation teaming and safety assurance in remote and semi-autonomous vessel operations.
The position under area 2 is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research program under the project “Integrating Adaptive Learning in Maritime Simulator-Based Education and Training with Intelligent Learning Systems (i-MASTER)”. Researchers will contribute to advance learning analytics for adaptive maritime training and data-driven decision-making.
Both positions will be affiliated with the MARSCI Research Group and will be mentored by the project leader and research consortium.
