The teaching responsibilities include thermofluidic systems, machinery systems design, maritime energy systems, and simulation, as well as supervising students in practical maritime engineering disciplines and laboratory work.
The desired research focus areas encompass energy systems for maritime low and zero emission ship solutions, with an emphasis on system design and simulation. We are particularly interested in integrating new methods for system simulation that optimize performance by combining different types of machinery and energy conversion technologies. Additionally, the incorporation of digitalization technologies and methods, such as AI, into research is highly desired.
The department aims to bridge education and research with practical field applications, actively involving the industry in our educational and research endeavors. Your immediate supervisor will be the Head of Department.
• Develop an independent technical research program in the area related to the posted position.
• Supervise and train bachelor’s students, master's students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers.
• Lead or contribute to the teaching of bachelor's, master's, and/or PhD level courses as required, while serving as a role model for students in practical engineering work.
• Engage in academic communities and disseminate research results by publishing in peer-reviewed research journals.
• Secure national and international external funding to support research activities.
• Build network with industry and strengthen the position of NTNU Ålesund as a partner for the industry.
Professor:
You must have the qualifications required for the position of professor in the field of maritime propulsion and energy systems, as outlined in § 1-2 of the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts

Applicable to all:
You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the Norwegian national Regulations. If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.
New employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language by appointment is required, within three years, to demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three of the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.
• Experience in modelling and simulation of hybrid energy systems
• Experience with turbine propulsion systems
• System design, operation and maintenance, and modeling of ship machinery and energy systems, including thermofluid- hydraulic and electrical systems, cryogenic systems and fuel cells
• A network in academia and industry, particularly relevant to NTNU
• Experience as a postdoctoral researcher or an established research track record after completing your PhD
• Oral and written skills in a Scandinavian language

As required by law, 2% of the salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund

Both quality and scope will be taken into consideration, and an open scientific practice will be recognized.
